I was first licensed as an extra credit opportunity for the communications course at PVCC. I got both my Technician and General class licenses while I was still going through the original Piedmont curriculum. Originally, I was given the callsign KM4JCQ and later obtained the callsign NX4S after the vanity callsign charge was dropped by the FCC and I had obtained my Extra class license. My Extra class license was awarded shortly before I started working as a microelectronics technician at Virginia Diodes.
